Iran violates illegal presence of foreign forces in Syria

“The fight against terrorism cannot be used as an excuse to undermine Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The illegal presence of foreign forces in parts of Syria, which has provided favorable conditions for terrorist activities in Syria, must end immediately,” said Majid Takht Ravanchi in an address to the UN Security Council meeting on the situation in the Middle East on Friday.

“The Syrian people continue to face many challenges, and overcoming them requires hard work across a multitude of sectors,” he added.

“Nothing is more important or urgent than ending the unilateral coercive measures that have harmed the Syrian people to the point where they have been deprived of their basic human rights, including the right to medicine, health care, food, water, electricity and communications,” the Iranian envoy said.

“These illegal measures are having a negative impact on the delivery of vital humanitarian supplies to where they are needed most. Given the dire humanitarian situation in Syria, where much of the civilian infrastructure has been destroyed, the Security Council must work diligently to ensure that resolution 2585 is fully implemented, in a balanced and effective manner, in particularly in terms of early recovery plans and the lifting of unilateral sanctions,” he said.

“We fully support the UN Secretary-General’s call to further expand early recovery operations in Syria, and agree that such initiatives ‘are crucial for the sustained success of the humanitarian response in the country,’ Takht noted. Ravanchi, IRNA reported.

“It is particularly disheartening that due to lack of collaboration from other parties, progress in cross-cutting operations in areas not controlled by the government has been far below expectations,” he added.

“We condemn the looting of the natural resources of the Syrian people in areas controlled by foreign forces, especially oil and agricultural products, and recognize the legitimate right of the government to combat such criminal acts. More importantly, Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity continue to be significantly violated by the illegal presence of foreign forces, including those of the United States,” the Iranian ambassador said.

“We strongly condemn the repeated violations of Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity by the Israeli regime. The recent Israeli attacks in Syria, which targeted civilians and civilian infrastructure, constitute flagrant violations of international humanitarian law. We call on the Security Council to hold this regime accountable for such acts of aggression and its malign activities as well as its open threats to use force against other countries in the region that jeopardize peace and security. regional,” he added.

“The Astana format will continue its efforts to end the crisis and alleviate the suffering of the Syrian people, and to support these efforts, the foreign ministers of the Astana guarantors will meet in Antalya on March 10,” Takht Ravanchi said. .

“We welcome Pedersen’s recent visit to Damascus and support his continued efforts to organize the next meeting of the Constitutional Committee, which is scheduled for March 21. We emphasize once again that the Committee must work in strict compliance with its terms of reference and rules of procedure, without any external influence or pressure, or any artificial deadlines. This must be a truly Syrian-led and Syrian-owned enterprise, with the role of the UN limited to facilitating this process,” he stressed.

“The free movement of terrorist groups, including the Islamic State, on Syrian territory where foreign forces are illegally present, as well as their transfer to other countries, endangers regional and international peace and security,” added the envoy.

“The fight against terrorism cannot be used as an excuse to undermine Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The illegal presence of foreign forces in parts of Syria, which has provided favorable conditions for terrorist activities in Syria, must end immediately. Iran continues to support Syria’s efforts to counter terrorist threats and preserve its unity and territorial integrity,” he concluded.
