Following previous predictions made by the Iranian Foreign Ministry regarding developments in Ukraine and as Iran monitors the latest situation of nationals residing in that country through the formation of a special headquarters, Foreign Minister Amirabdollahian had a telephone conversation with the Iranian ambassador. in Ukraine on Tuesday.
During the phone call, Amirabdollahian got information on the latest developments in Ukraine, especially the situation of Iranians living there, including Iranian students.
The Foreign Minister also made the necessary recommendations regarding Iranian nationals in Ukraine and stressed the need to provide them with all necessary services by the Iranian Embassy in Kyiv in the event of a crisis in the country, the site reported. In comments at a press conference on Monday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh expressed Tehran’s willingness to use mediation to resolve tensions between Ukraine and Russia.
“We have a good relationship with both parties and urge them both to remain calm. We are ready to make efforts (to resolve the tensions),” the spokesperson said.
The Iranian spokesman also criticized the United States for sparking tensions, saying Washington had failed to learn from its destructive policies in various regions, such as Afghanistan.
Tensions over the Ukraine-Russia crisis have been simmering for more than two months, with diplomatic efforts to resolve the issue showing little sign of progress.
Russia has more than 100,000 troops on its border with Ukraine, as Western governments have warned of an imminent invasion.
