The 75-year-old pianist’s real name is Reginald Kenneth Dwight. However, he changed it in the late 1960s when he and his friends formed the band Bluesology.

From there, he started his own record label, The Rocket Record Company. However, he decided not to release his own album under his company and instead signed an $8 million deal with MCA.
Successive Elton John albums from the 1980s to 1992 were all successful. He and Taupin went on to sign a 12-year, $39 million deal with Warner Bros. Records, the largest cash advance in music history at the time.
In 1994, he composed the official soundtrack of the Disney animated film The Lion King, which became a Certified Diamond in 1999 for selling 15 million copies. He then reissued “Candle in the Wind” in 1997 to commemorate the death of Princess Diana, making it the best-selling single in recording history.
