RSS-BJP distorts history and deceives the country: Ashok Gehlot

Congress Leader and Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Sunday claimed that the RSS and BJP were distorting history and misleading the country, and said young people should study history and think for themselves- same.

The RSS and BJP made no contribution to India’s freedom struggle and made no sacrifices, thus deceiving the people, he charged.

”What rights do they have to deceive young people? They only know how to twist history,’ he said in a virtual broadcast on Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s birthday.

”They never accepted Mahatma Gandhi. Now their people are worshiping and installing statues of (Nathuram) Godse,’ he said, targeting the RSS-BJP.

Gehlot also countered the narrative that nothing has been done in the 70 years since independence. ”All the development that has taken place…has it been done in just seven years?” he asked.

He said that despite the differences, Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru and Subhas Chandra Bose espouse the cause of freedom.

He said political struggle should be ideological, but it is unfortunate that even after 75 years of independence, politics is done on the basis of caste and religion.

The chief minister said young people should study history, think for themselves and be inspired by the traditions of the country. There should be an environment of peace, harmony and brotherhood in the country. “Only then will the country prosper,” he said.
