‘The Kashmir Files’ to reveal the untold story of the 1990 policyless exodus: Vivek Agnihotri
Jammu: Claiming there is nothing political in the story, producer and director Vivek Agnihotri said on Saturday that his upcoming film ‘The Kashmir Files’ will reveal an untold story of the 1990 exodus that forced hundreds of Kashmiri Hindus to migrate from the Kashmir Valley.
The special screening of ‘The Kashmir Files’, a film based on the displacement of Kashmiri Pandits from the Kashmir Valley in the 1990s, was held in Jammu on Friday evening. The film hits the big screen on March 11. Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri, flanked by his wife and actress Pallavi Joshi, claimed the film would bring audiences the truth and untold story of the Kashmiri Hindus of the 1990s exodus.
He was talking to a presser here this morning. “The film will bring out the truth about the exodus and displacement of the Kashmiri Pandits,” Agnihotri said, further claiming that linking the Kashmir solution through the “Kashmir files” to politics or political organization would be a mistake because in a democracy, politics is run by voting banks. “There is no Kashmiri Pandit vote bank in Jammu and Kashmir, so maybe it could not be resolved,” he said.
As the film landed in controversy before its release as some people knocked on the doors of justice to object to certain scenes, Agnihotri searched these sections of people and said, “Everything shown in the film is based on truth.” He said the slogans raised in Kashmir or whatever was written on the walls in 1990, everything is shown as it is in the film, which actually upsets a lot of people.
“The project for ‘The Kashmir Files’ started in 2018 and it took four years of hard research,” he said, stating that this is a film that, so far, nobody never tried to bring it to the big screen. He claimed that the genocide that took place in Kashmir in 1990 is true. “We interviewed people who were victims of the massacre, spoke to government officials, police officers, subject matter experts and also interviewed many sections to script this untold story,” he added.
The Director said that after the revocation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir on August 5, 2019, a campaign for Free Kashmir in America was launched, but after the screening of “The Kashmir Files” in the United States- United, for the first time in the hills of the capital, a reception was held for the entire crew where it was “accepted” and “admitted” that this was the greatest tragedy and genocide in the world.
