Norway ready to develop diplomatic relations with Iran – Politics News
During a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian in Tehran on Saturday, Thune described strengthening diplomatic contacts with Iran as a high priority in his country’s foreign policy regarding the West Asian region.
Welcoming the fostering of relations between Oslo and Tehran, the Norwegian diplomat outlined his country’s positions on the developments in Ukraine and Afghanistan.
He also extended the Norwegian Foreign Minister’s invitation to Amirabdollahian to visit the Scandinavian nation for a meeting of the Oslo Forum.
For his part, the senior Iranian diplomat described the centuries-old political relations between the two countries as strong support for their interaction, stressing the need to expand political, trade and parliamentary cooperation.
He also praised the participation of Iranian expatriates in political, economic and scientific activities in Norway as a valuable asset for closer relations between the two countries.
Amirabdollahian further clarified Iran’s positions on regional developments, the situation in Ukraine, Afghanistan and Yemen, as well as security and stability in the Persian Gulf.
The two diplomats said the political consultations at the level of deputy foreign ministers provide a good opportunity to promote interaction and mutual understanding.
